Archile's End of the Year Best and Worst of 2024 Part I

  Kept ya waitin', huh?

Considering this blog's reboot, I almost decided against the end of the year awards... Almost. Considering I wrote about my entire 6 inch action figure collection, this is as close to an inventory as it gets! Due to the massive 482 figure list I'm bound to have made some mistakes with the lists. Regardless, it's time for the tally!

Marvel Action Figures

Of these 482, 283 are Marvel characters, 281 of them are Marvel Legends, the other two Marvel/Diamond Select. And thus here are the winners and losers:

Best and Worst Captain America Figures

Worst) Civil Warrior

Considering Civil Warrior was a pretty decent figure... I'd say my Captain America related action figures are pretty good! This guy comes from a Mobile game, if I'm not mistaken, and I think the marriage between Captain America and Iron Man worked out pretty well.

5) Falcon(Joe Fixit Wave)

I'm not going to lie, I've never cared too much about Falcon, he was a guy who could fly and speak with his pet falcon, namely, he was a slightly better vulture! But, thankfully, his action figure looked pretty spiffy, and being built on the Sunfire buck meant he was a lot of fun to play with.

4) Red Skull(Xenmu Wave)
Almost makes you wanna be a nazi, don't he? This Red Skull figure was so much fun, I had him lying around next to me for a good part of last year, when I first got him. He looks so mean, but gleefully mean, that it makes for such a punchable face! I was a bit miffed I had to settle for the classic green, boring costume, because the other Red Skulls were either too old or based on the MCU, but Hasbro managed to make the green look work for him.

3) Hydra Supreme
Am I putting this exact same figure as Civil Warrior so high in this list because I really, REALLY love the color scheme? Well, yes I am! I actually bought this figure first, not knowing who or what he was, because the metallic yellow looked so good with the dark green, not to mention that the overall armored look just tickled my fancy in all the right ways. So, yeah, a different color scheme can make all the difference in the world. I mean, think Ryu is one of the most boring characters ever created while Ken Masters has been my favorite Street Fighter character for a while now! Spoilers? Maybe!

Runner-up) M.O.D.O.K.
This has been one of my favorite figures in my collection ever since he first made it into my hands. He looks a bit like Dwight Schrute, doesn't he? He doesn't have a lot of articulation, but he has as much as the character allows for, so I can't fault them on that end. And they made up for it by giving him a beautiful sculpt, and having a fire-jet double as his base was a brilliant idea.

Winner) Captain America(Infinity Saga)
I really, REALLY don't like Captain America. He is one of the most boring heroes in the Marvel stable that keeps getting shilled over and over again, even in the classic 70's and 80's comics, when he wasn't so popular, other heroes would constantly glaze him over and over again. And I don't really care about the MCU either. But this figure is a thing of beauty. They captured Chris Evans' look perfectly, and the costume this Captain America wears is just so goddamn badass. I adore having this figure in my collection.

Best and Worst Daredevil Figures

Worst) Daredevil(Wallgreens Exclusive)

Much like Civil Warrior, this Daredevil figure is actually a decent figure, because I only have decent Daredevil figures, but something needed to be here and he got the dubious honor. The problem with this figure is that Daredevil wore a BRIGHT YELLOW and brown suit, and for whatever reason they made him orange. They would fix this with a lootbox exclusive, but this is the version I got. Lame!

5) Lady Bullseye

I know very little about Lady Bullseye, but I do know that she looks amazing. I love the simple black-and-white design, and how she styles her hair with chopsticks, or however those sticks are called. Even better, she comes with a ton of weapons, but having her wield anything but fans just feels like such a waste!

4) Lady Daredevil

Seems you can make a lady out of anyone these days! While I hate this trend of gender-swapping every male hero, Elektra is a case in which it made sense and her design ended up being badass as hell. I think Hasbro nailed that design to a tee, and while maybe her head should've been a tad bigger... it works well with the scarf. The world didn't need a Lady Daredevil, but the world is so much better with a Lady Daredevil action figure in it.

3) Kingpin(Retro-carded)

If I'm not mistaken, this was the first BIG Marvel Legends figure I received, and if he wasn't the first he was among the first. He could work as either a Spider-Man figure or a DD figure, but the Spider-Man list(Spoilers!) was filled by other characters. This is a fantastic representation of Kingpin's Spider-man TAS' look, costume-wise, but with a more realist face sculpt. His massive size makes him perfect to pose fighting DD or Spidey!

Runner-up) Bullseye

For my heroes, I want either serene or relaxed facesculpts... but for villains I want them looking maniacal, and just LOOK at this guy! And aside from his face, I loved his accessories, like his Kunai-throwing hand. And even better, he was sculpted on the SunFire buck, so he can hit all sorts of poses while throwing stuff! An absolute banger of a figure.

Winner) King Daredevil

I don't like bearded heroes, but I'll make an exception for King Daredevil. I'll be the first to admit that this figure has some shortcomings, namely, not having butterfly joints, considering Matt is an athlete. But leaving that aside, this guy looks amazing and they nailed his King Daredevil look so perfectly. Now, if we could get the White Daredevil from the same run...

Best and Worst X-Men Figures

Worst) Avalanche

Oh, look, garbage! So, while he is a super basic design, at first, I was quite content with him. Until his first arm broke, yes, FIRST, because eventually, both arms broke. And I looked him up online, his arms are notorious for breaking. Garbage. I was too kind with the 3.0 I gave him.

5) Omega Red(Sauron Wave)

This Omega Red is a banger, he is sculpted on a larger buck than most figures, which gives him an impressive size difference over the Bucky Cap and Sunfire bucks. But the rest of the figure is fantastic, his face looks mean, and his pre-posed tendrils make him look like a badass.

4) Mister Sinister(Wendigo Wave)

I knew from the first time I laid eyes on him that I was gonna adore him. So, I don't really agree with his size, as he's been smaller on the TAS show as well as any time I've seen him in comics, but, BUT, I'll let it slide because it only makes him look deadlier. The metallic deep-blue paint they chose for most of his body was also a good design choice, so wherever you place him, he will stand out.

3) Mojo

Absolutely disgusting... and I love him all the more for it! He looks so gross, and even better, he is a very large figure, so he makes for a fantastic villain on any display. I think I might pair him up with Jabba...

Runner-up) Deadpool(Retro-Carded)

Another brilliant use of the Sunfire Buck. I'm particularly fond of this figure because he looks EXACTLY like he used on his first mini-series, drawn by Joe Madureira, which also happens to be my introduction to the character way back when! His katanas are a bit shorter than I would've liked, and his grip on them is a bit loose, but, that aside, he is a brilliant action figure. Using metallic greys for the black parts on his costume was a choice, but I don't necessarily hate it. All said, I adore this figure.

Winner) Cyclops(VHS)

By the time I discovered this figure he was a bit expensive on the after market, and I already had the Warlock Wave Cyke, so... I almost passed up on him. Which would've been a mistake, 'cause this is one of my favorite action figures period. Built on the Vulcan buck, he has a very beefy, heroic build which fits Scott SO nicely, and they finally painted him yellow, and they also fixed the problem with the previous figure's loose straps. My only issue is the cell-shading, but I can let it pass because, c'mon, this is THE definitive Cyclops figure. Period.

Best and Worst Spider-Man Figures

1) Spider-Man 2099(Retro-Carded)

I've so many Spider-man figures that Spider-man's list is gonna be doubled! I mean, I started off my action figure collection as a Spider-Man collection, so it just makes sense to make it this way! And we'll start this off with a clunker, Spider-Man 2099. Maybe it was a bit better back when the original release first came out, but this rerelease came at a time in which Spider-man moved away from this buck... so he feels undersized. And, worst of all, this rerelease has busted thigh-swivels, so he can't turn his legs. Horrible!

2) Agent Venom

Marvel hasn't been good to Spider-man since One More Day, but one of the few bright spots that came out of it was Agent Venom. Sadly, his action figure is kinda bad. The proportions look weird, which makes him very top heavy, and his hips are on those awful, outdated ball-joints. He is not a fun figure to play around with.

2.5) Agent Anti-Venom

Different colors, same figure, same problems. He is lower on the list only because I like the black color scheme better.

3) Superior Spider-Man

In Superior's defense, he wasn't bad a few years ago, it's just that time hasn't been kind to him. Spider-Man 2099 was undersized? Well, this one is even worse, as his torso is shorter, so while he is supposed to be Peter(Or Peter's body) he is closer to the teen buck. And it's not just that, his limbs are TOO long, so it ends up looking like a very weird, but very articulated, figure.

Runner-up) Spider-Girl

Marvel's teenage female buck is one of their worst one, due to the limited articulation, particularly on the hips. This is supposed to be a mobile, lithe character, but in action figure form... she feels anything but.

Loser) Black Cat

When you think of Black Cat you think of a very nimble athlete, well, this figure is anything but. Her elbow-bend doesn't reach 90 degrees, do I really need to say more? Or what about the lifeless look on her face? Black Cat is an utter disgrace, and it sucks that the only decent Black Cat figure Hasbro has released is wearing such a plain costume, which means... if you like your classics, you are stuck with this stinker.

10) Peter Parker(Peter/Smythe VHS)

Kid me would've LOVED this figure, as he looks as if he was ripped straight out of the show. He's a perfect Peter Parker figure for when my displays calls for a civilian Peter!

9) Venom(Venom/Riot/Agony 3-Pack)

I have other Venoms, and god knows Hasbro has released multiple Venom figures, but this right here is the perfect mixture of every comic incarnation of Venom. From McFarlane's larger size, since he is made on the Omega Red Buck, to Bagley's long tongue and even the newer veins on his wrists... he has a little bit of everything, and that makes him my ideal Venom figure.

8) Beetle

I've always felt some weird affinity towards Beetle. I remember being jealous of kids who had his Toybiz Action Figure back when I was younger, and he didn't even appear in the old TAS show, and yet, something about the figure just spoke to me. And now, years later, as a grown adult man I've got a newer action figure depicting him... and I still love him. They went for metallic paint, and he looks glorious, and he has been a mainstay in my displays and hands since 2025!

7) Tombstone(Retro-Carded)

For some reason Hasbro has been using crappy plastic for their recent releases. Tombstone buckles the trend, as he feels very solid and hefty. Back when I got the first Tombstone figure, while I was satisfied, I knew that a suited Tombstone would've been much better... and he is. He is such a badass, good-looking figure, he is just DRIPPING with style, and makes for top-notch villain figure.

6) Mary Jane(Mary Jane/Green Goblin VHS)

Another phenomenal TAS action figure, this time it's Mary Jane. Much like Peter, she feels as if she was ripped straight out of the show, even the way the painted the buttons on her sweater was so ingenious! She makes it higher into the list because I like her vibrant colors better, and I also feel like she fits a larger niche in my collection than Peter.

5) Silk

For a while, this was my favorite female action figure in my collection. The buck is fantastic, for a female figure, giving her a lot of articulation, and I also loved her black and white costume with red accents. The face sculpt was another bit that they nailed really well, and her action-hand piece is so cool!

4) Scarlet Spider(Retro-Carded)

Growing up, Ben Reilly as Scarlet Spider was my favorite Spider-Guy. I mean, the wristbands, the 90's blue hoodie... Scarlet Spider was as 90's as it gets, and I loved it. Other Spider-Guys have taken his spot in my heart, but he still ranks very high, and this new release is wonderful, having a very beefy, but athletic sculpt, and all the articulation modern standards have brought. It helps that it came out before Hasbro's plastic became REALLY bad.

3) Scarlet Spider(Sp///der Wave)

This is the figure that started my collection, which I bought at the same time as Ultimate Smash Bros., so yeah, I have some nostalgic bias towards him. But even beyond that, he is a cool design, and he is currently my favorite Spider-Guy in the Spider-Man family of heroes. Beyond that, he is not just another Spider-Man recolor, he has this angry eyes sculpted onto his head that no other Spider-Figure has, and he comes with his deadly Spider-Stingers just for good measure.

Runner-up) Chasm

Rian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy MURDERED Luke Skywalker, well, Marvel has MURDERED Ben Reilly. They only brought him back to humiliate him and ruin him, and now they turned him into this weird 'Chasm' character with energy super powers. What a joke.
But... Chasm does make for a bombastic action figure. No, really, this is my second favorite Spider-Guy action figure, I think the purple, black and teal just looks incredible on an action figure, and the figure has the advantage of not having all the character-assassination-lore bagage the character must carry.

Winner) Iron Spider

My favorite Spider-Man action figure happens to be my favorite Spider-Man costume? Am I just playing favorites here? Nah, I am not. Hasbro could've botched the figure, it could've been outdated... but it isn't. It's on the Sunfire Buck, so sculpt and articulation are both top-notch, but they also integrated his waldos perfectly well, and since he comes from an era when Hasbro still used good plastic, they don't stress as badly as Superior Spider-Man's. The beautiful, metallic scarlet-and-gold color scheme also helps make him look really nice.

Best and Worst Iron Man Figures

Worst) Iron Man(Midnight Suns)

With Hasbro's current Marvel Legends molds they have to actually try to make a bad figure, but they managed to do it. Not only is Midnight Suns' Iron Man gimped on the articulation front, but it's also a poor adaptation of this version of Iron Man. At least the paint job is nice, I guess.

5) Grey Gargoyle

I'm pretty sure that this guy debuted in the pages of Captain America, but any 90's kid, like me, will tell you that this guy is an Iron Man villain, thanks to the TAS show. And well, I love the look. The grey they picked looks like granite, and I love that gnarly smile that paints him as full of himself. A really nice villainous figure to have around!

4) War Machine(Modular)

Rhodey never wore this armor in the comics, but hey, who can say no to MvC's War Machine?! A fun bit of trivia, about myself of course, is that growing up I actually liked War Machine better. Something about a heavier, slower but more powerful version of Iron Man just appealed to my 90's edgy kid mind. Regardless, this is a great figure, and it looks badass in this metallic grey and black.

3) Modular Iron Man

Identical to the above figure, heck, in fact, War Machine came with the MvC energy effects... but at the end of the day, I'm a simple guy, I love yellow and gold, and warm colors such as red and orange... so Iron Man takes the next spot. Yes, both figures are identical, but this color scheme makes me give it the edge to the buckethead.

Runner-up) Iron Man Extremis

The Extremis storyline was what got me back into reading Iron Man for a while, so getting an action figure of said storyline was just what the doctor ordered. A lot of people didn't like the more subdued color scheme... but he looks exactly like he did in the covers of the era, so I find it hard not to love, plus, I have more vibrant Iron Mans in my collection, I can take a different looking Iron Man. The articulation is really good, the sculpt is very accurate.... just a good all-around figure.

Winner) Iron Man(Model 20)

Not my favorite Iron Man design.... but c'mon, look at the mount of detail that went into sculpting this guy! He comes from the opposite school of thought from Extremis, instead of keeping it simple, this guys is full of lines EVERYWHERE, as well as fins and pieces being etched in and out of his body. I just love the overall look of this guy.

Best and Worst Cosmic Marvel Figures

Worst) Thanos(Build-A-Figure)

Build-A-Figures should be massive, impressive figures that reward customers for splurging on a whole wave of figures. This Thanos figure is so bad, he can barely more his legs or his torso. It's such a disappointment as Thanos is one of the cosmic power houses in the Marvel Universe.

5) Groot(Guardians of the Galaxy 5-Pack)

Not the Groot you are used to, I bet. This is a comic-accurate, at least pre-GoG Movie, Groot, so he looks ugly and mean and lanky and I'm here for it! He looks brilliant, and is such a cool piece to have around other cosmic heroes and villains of Marvel.

4) Silver Surfer

One of the simpler Marvel designs, but Hasbro made all the right choices, with the head sculpt, the stern expression on his face, the beautiful silver pain... and how his board works. His beautiful figure to have hovering over others.

3) FireLord

Oh, look, the pansy that got wrecked by Peter! Out-of-character moment aside, FireLord would've never made it into a most-wanted list of mine... or most people's, but they went ahead and nailed a fun looking figure out of him. It just helps that pretty much any figure they made on the Sunfire mold is fun to play with.

Runner-up) Gamora(Guardians of the Galaxy 5-Pack)

I love comic book Gamora, and this is a fantastic version of her look in the Annihilation Wave comics. She looks muscular, as she should, and the metallic green they used for her costume makes her look cosmic-y. She's fantastic, and considering modern standards... we probably won't get another figure of her looking like this any time soon. And I don't even like glorified bikini female outfits.

Winner) Drax the Destroyer(Drax/MoonDragon 2-Pack)

I like Drax's modern incarnation, the smart, deadly Drax from the comics. In fact, I only bought this two-pack because I needed Moondragon next to my Guardians of the Galaxy. And yet, here there was, this HULKING, purple-and-green looking UNIT of a figure. This is not my favorite Drax incarnation, I hate how dumb he is, BUT, he makes for an impressive punching bag for other figures. It's an ugly job, but somebody's gotta do it, so thank you, Drax, for being such an imposing bunch of plastic muscles.

Best and Worst Fantastic Four Figures

Worst) Medusa(Thanos Imperative)

Considering the InHumans were born in the pages of Fantastic Four... they count as FF characters! I'll give it to Hasbro, making an action figure out of Medusa is a challenge... but this ain't it. Her head is too heavy, which doesn't help when she is built on the flimsiest female buck Marvel Legends has. And while she did wear this costume during the Annihilation Wave era... she doesn't scream MEDUSA to me, now, does she? What a disappointment.

5) Psychoman

The guy that turned Sue Storm into a bondage fetishist. Not the most well-known character, he did face Spidey a couple of times, so I am familiar with him. But above that, I think he is a fun, oddball action figure to own. His color scheme is quite easy on the eyes too.

4) The Human Torch(Wallgreens Exclusive)

I love me some fire-attuned character, and this is as hot as it gets. They went for a translucent red for most of the figure, with some orange accents here and there. He looks fantastic, and it's my favorite Johnny Storm figure, easily.

3) Spider-Man(FF Spider-Man/Wolverine 2-Pack)

Oh, c'mon, Spidey and the FF are so closely related that they are pretty much family at this point... so much so, that Spidey joined them, officially, a couple of times. In a few words, this is a blue Spider-man, and I think he looks neat, and he's built on the Amazing Fantasy sculpt, which is already a fantastic Spidey figure... so this one is another winner.

Runner-up) Doctor Doom(The Cabal)

When I first got my hands on the God Emperor Doom I thought that I could be content with just that Doom. I was wrong, if one is to have a single Doom figure, it oughta be the classic green! And this release is fantastic, the little cloth capes adds so much DRIP to this guy, and allows for more posing than a boring plastic cape would. If you ask me, this is the definitive Marvel Legends Doom figure.

Winner) The Thing(Retro-Carded)

Aunt Petunia didn't raise no runner up! The Thing was my favorite FF character growing up, and I loved my ToyBiz action figure of him. Well, this figure blows it out of the water. See? When Hasbro TRULY cares they can make amazing figures. The detail? Fantastic. And the articulation is just perfect considering that he is a larger figure. Like, really, you won't ever need another Ben Grimm figure.

Best and Worst MCU Figures

Worst) Iron Man Mark 50(Iron Spider/Iron Man Civil War 2-Pack)

Despite having one of the coolest accessories among my figures... the rest of the figure is a clunker. The proportions look off, particularly the torso, and the articulation leaves a lot to be desired. The color scheme is also kinda ugly... Yeah, skip this one. Iron Spider(MCU) wasn't worth getting this paperweight too.

5) Ikaris(Gilgamesh Wave)

Despite how bad his comic book figure is, despite how bad the movie is supposed to be, and despite the corners cut, particularly when the paint on his back.... I think this Ikaris figure is very good. He looks cool, and the metallic paint gives him this otherwordly aura to him.

4) Kate Bishop(Ultron Wave)

While I'm bummed that comic-accurate Kate Bishop is so expensive... settling for the MCU version is not half bad. She has a ton of articulation not often seen on ML's female action figures, even including butterfly joints, so there's a lot of fun poses you can get her into. He MCU costume is quite cool anyways, so until a comic-accurate figure is re-released... she'll do!

3) Green Goblin(No Way Home)

Who doesn't want Willem Dafoe in plastic form? Well, I for one wanted it, and... here he is! The accuracy in the face-sculpt is uncanny, and the rest of the figure is a banger. The pieces that hold his feet are a bit... sloppy, but the rest of the figure is phenomenal.

Runner-up) Captain America(Infinity Saga)

Hello, there, old pal! The best in my Captain America collection of figures is also among the best MCU figures, who would've thought?!

Winner) Erik Killmonger(Everett/Killmonger 2-Pack)

Much like Thor and Captain America, I never really liked Black Panther... but man, does he make for great action figures! I almost had a Black Panther section, but most figures were 7 outta 10s, and the worst figure was Klaw, a 6, so it didn't make sense to have its own section... besides, Erik would've won that award and then he would've taken this one too. Regardless, I adore this figure. From the color scheme, to the articulation, to the sculpt.... it's one of my favorites by far.

Best and Worst OTHER Figures

Worst) Red Widow

She has articulation, so she is an action figure... but the cape she comes with prevents her from using her arms, so what is she? Garbage. That's what she is.

5) Justice

Not a lot of people know or care about Justice.... but I do! He was the leader of the New Warriors, back when Scarlet Spider was part of this roster, so I really like this character, and they nailed him to a tee.

4) Jigsaw

First introduced in a Spider-man comicbook, Jigsaw, as an action figure, looks amazing, just look at his face sculpt! And not content with having so much drip, despite his looks, he also comes with a ton of accessories for your other figures, so there's no going wrong with Jigsie.

3) She-Hulk(Retro-Carded)

None of the She-Hulk action figures available were quite what I was looking for, but waiting for so long paid off, because this just might be the ultimate She-Hulk figure. Sporting her 90's pompadour 'do, she looks fabulous, and I wouldn't have it any other way. She was even given an entirely new female buck!

Runner-up) Kang the Conqueror

Even though I was a huge fan of the 2006's Guardians, and Kang made an appearance there... he wasn't a character that I knew. As far as I knew, he was just a once off third-bit player. Turns out he wasn't, and only this year I found out about him(Hey! I never cared about the Avengers, cut me some slack!), and while he is OK as a villain... as an action figure he is GLORIOUS. He has been a mainstay among the figures I toy around with for a while now.

Winner) Zabu(Build-A-Figure)

When he was first revealed I felt disappointed. Such a tiny BAF? Who cares?... but after I built him, he has become a mainstay on my displays. Turns out having a Sabertooth tiger next to your figures only makes them cooler. He has a really nice sculpt, and the articulation is up to par!

DC Action Figures

There were 98 DC action figures, of which 81 were from Mattel lines such as Multiverse, DC Universe Classics, Batman Unlimited, DC Super Heroes and the such. My DC figure collection certainly has room to grow, but in the mean time... onwards with the winners and losers!

Best and Worst Aquaman Figures

Worst) New 52's Justice League Aquaman

So, he looks cool as hell. I've honestly been wanting to own him for YEARS now, but could never justify getting an action figure, games were a priority. And now I finally have him, and he does look cool as hell... but he is more of an statue than anything else, no, really, why even bother with articulation if he can do so little?

5) Black Manta

Not the figure I thought I was getting... but, in all honesty, considering it was made for children and not collectors... it ain't half bad. Covers all the basic, and the range of movement is good all around.

4) Aquaman(Wave 2)

Ever since I first got my mittens on the legendary 'Aquaman loses his hand' book I've been a die-hard Aquaman fan, because I know how badass he is. This isn't my favorite look for the guy, but it was the first Aquaman figure I got, and for a starter Aquaman he was good enough...

3) Aquaman(Unlimited)

At least until I got my hands on a proper New 52 Aquaman. He may not have the beard, but he lost the silly black trunks, and I like this headsculpt better.

Runner-up) Aqualad(Young Justice)

There are two Aqualads and both are badass as hell. I prefer Garth, due to nostalgia, but Young Justice's Aqualad is just as badass. And his figure? Look at him! He also comes with all manners of cool water weapons!

Winner) Black Manta

Simple but effective, that describes this Black Manta figure. He is based on his most classic design, but as simple as he is, due to the matte paint he has, and the deep, red eyes, you just know that he means business.

Best and Worst Batman Figures

Worst) Batgirl(Cassandra Cain)

Holy hell. Bad articulation? Check. Weird proportions? Just look at the size of her head! But at least she has a good sculpt, right...? She can barely stand without her base. She sucks!

5) Man-Bat

When Mattel cooked, they COOKED. While the articulation could've been a bit better, the sculpt is what I like the most about the figure, he looks very scary and badass, he doesn't even feel like a comic book villain... and I mean that as high praise.

4) Harley Quinn(Multiverse)

Not Harley's most iconic look, but she works really well as a modern take on her. I feel like Mattel knocked it out of the park with her, not only is the figure itself nicely sculpted, but she came with a bunch of fun accessories that make Harley, well, Harley.

3) Batman Ninja(Build-A-Figure)

The movie was kinda meh, the idea was kinda bad... but Ninja Batman was so cool, and Mattel brought him into the world of plastic so well. The only issue I have is that he is more of a 7 inch figure than a 6 inch figure, but... I'm OK with it, this is a more imposing Batman after all. But, yeah, I love this guy, I've used every excuse I could to display him, such as 'sword fighters'!

Runner-up) Deadshot

Look, I know very little about Deadshot, I'll freely admit that, and, at a glance, all this red, grey and yellow doesn't seem like a good match... and yet, I fell in love with this figure as soon as I held it in my hands. Something about him is just... fun to play with, and pose. I can't quite pinpoint it, and I can't believe a Deadshot figure of all things is making it this high on this list... but here we are.

Winner) Nightwing(Mafex)

Sometimes it's hard to divorce the feeling one has for a character from how I feel about the action figure. If I like the character I will be predisposed to liking the figure... so, Nightwing is my favorite Superhero.... but that has nothing to do with how amazing this figure is. From the incredibly fun accessories like the twirling staffs, to just how much fun he is to pose. He looks very simple in photos, but trust me, posing him around is so much fun, I've spammed my IG account with Nightwing fighting other characters! It's a shame MAFEX is so prohibitively expensive, much more than Figuarts or Figma, because I sure would like to own some more.

Best and Worst Superman Figures

Worst) Lex Luthor

Some writers claim Lexie wants to destroy Superman because he could never be him... and yeah, I get him, if he needs to wear this clunky armor that barely lets him move in order to stand up to Supes... I get it, it must be frustrating. He can't kick, he can barely punch, and he can't even look to the sides. Poor Lexie.

5) Superman Blue

I never liked Superman very much, although this year I read a few of his comics, like the Last Son of Krypton, but when he became a being of energy in the 90's... I kinda like him then. And I love this action figure, because Mattel made him look so... so powerful, so above humanity. He is fun to pose displaying his might!

4) Darkseid

I knew my collection was missing a Darkseid, and while he is not the largest D around, I found him for cheap... and I'm quite satisfied with him. He is as poseable as he needs to be, and he IS a tad larger than the average Mattel figure, so even if he s smaller than other Darkseids he still works well among my figures. I'm quite glad I finally got him, and that he was so much fun to play with.

3) Parasite

Maybe this should've been a Superman villains list. Parasite's sculpt is a bit odd looking, but that only makes it all the more charming. He is one of the more unique DCUC sculpts, and I love how creepy he looks. Whenever Mattel went for more unique sculpts the results were brilliant, like with Man-Bat.

Runner-up) Superboy

I've always enjoyed Superboy's 90's design. The jacket, the shades, the yellow straps... it's all so 90s! And Mattel did an excellent job translating him into plastic. He is one of my favorite DCUC figures.

Winner) Steel

Who would have thought that it would've been the Superman pretenders at the top of Superman's list! Steel is another brilliant sculpt by Mattel where they pretty much built him up from scratch, and the result was incredible. I even love how squared his head-sculpt came out, very reminiscent of his first few issues during Superman's death! An excellent figure.

Best and Worst Titans Figures

Worst) Wonder Girl(Cassie)(DC Multiverse)

I think I have hated this figure ever since I first got it. Her proportions are all outta whack, which makes her look odd no matter how you pose her. She has no waist swivel or ab-crunch or anything to have her land any dynamic pose. And the cherry on top? The awful, blank expression on her face. I'm glad I got a better Cassie this year.

5) Jericho

Jericho is a guy I discovered this very year while reading The New Teen Titans for the first time, and what can I say, I kinda liked the guy, so I needed Jericho in my collection. It's a DC Collectibles figure, so the articulation is kinda lame, but the sculpt is very good, the color scheme is eyecatching and I can get him decently posed with what he's got.

4) Starfire(DC Multiverse)

My first Starfire figure, I got her very early this year. She came out great, I love how her hair goes from red to translucent orange, and I quite like this costume, which even though it's still a glorified swimsuit, it's leagues and bounds above the glorified bikini. The Effect accessories she came out with are great too... albeit I like using them with my Lanterns.

3) Red Arrow

Red Arrow is a character I first started to like back when he was known as Arsenal, when he founded the new Outsiders with Dick. While I'm more fond of his Arsenal look, this figure looks great. From the maroon and red tones they picked for his costume to the really fitting expression he has on his face. Whenever I display my Titans, Red Arrow is always featured close to the center.

Runner-up) Nightwing(DC Universe Classics)

Back when I first started looking for Nightwing figures, I always skipped this one because I thought his headsculpt looked bad. Well, in person it looks much better. While it's not the most handsome Nightwing Figure, I still think he is an excellent representation of the character, they even gave him his classic armored gauntlets and boots.

Winner) Nightwing(MAFEX)

But among Nightwing figures, there are none better than Mafex's. They went for the simplest version of Dick, but it works, he looks very lithe, and posing him around is such a treat. This figure is also the perfect size to pair him up with Starfire.

Best and Worst Lanterns Figures

Worst) Simon Baz

Considering it's a DC Direct figure, and thus it has limited articulation... I think he is fine. The metallic green paint makes him look very galactic-y, and no other Lantern figure I own has that sheen, so it has that going for it... but, yeah, the limited articulation limits how fun he could be.

5) Mongul

Sometimes goes as a Superman villain, but he has butted heads with the lanterns more than enough times to be considered a villain of theirs. I don't think purple and magenta are the deadliest looking colors, but he marks an impressive figure that looks great as a baddie for other figures to fight.

4) Hal Jordan

I'm not the biggest Hal Jordan fan, but as the centerpiece of my Lantern displays he gets the job done. He is pretty basic all things considered, but Mattel got it right with him.

3) John Stewart

Another rather basic figure, I like John better because his costume is much sleeker and the face sculpt looks much more natural.

Runner-up) Sinestro

Well, the leader of the opposing corps made it here, and I love him. He is slightly taller than Hal, and looks quite lanky too, perfect for Sinestro! I'm quite happy with him fighting my greenies.

Winner) Kyle Rayner

I know how it looks like, but I'm not playing favorites! Not only is he on the Multiverse Buck, which already makes him look better and pose better than the DCUC figures, but I love this version of Kyle, it's the one I grew up with, after all. Honestly, among all my lanterns, I definitely like him first... as a toy and as a character!

Best and Worst Other Figures

Worst) Black Canary

Be it Mattel or Hasbro, for whatever reason, female figures always get the short end of the stick, and there's no better example than Black Canary. Weird proportions and limited articulation make for a rather bland figure.

5) Wonder Woman

While she does look a bit cartoony due to her head-sculpt, I think they nailed the armor and the color scheme. I think she could've been better in a few aspects, but overall? She's a really good figure.

4) Dr. Fate

I actually love this guy. On one hand, he is kinda simple, but on the other one... they made the best they could with the source material, and I love the result. I also love the accessory he comes with, it's perfect for him and adds so much to what you can do with him!

3) Hawkman

I just love what Mattel did with this guy. The accessories, the sculpt, THE PAINT! But even better, I think they got his wings in such an ingenious manner! I just loved displaying this guy however I could.

Runner-up) Zatanna Zatara

While on the outset she looks similar to Black Canary.... she's just so much better. Things such as the proportions work much better with Zatanna's outfit. Which is funny, because she uses mostly the same colors as Black Canary, but, she's a much more fun figure.

Winner) Magog

Somehow I knew that this figure was amazing just from photos, but having him in my hands? Wow, he's an absolute unit! He's a neat, menacing figure to have on display, and all the unique work that went into his sculpt makes him impossible to ignore among the other DCUC figures.

Star Wars Action Figures

Only 34 of my figures come from Star Wars, but hey... spoilers for 2026, but this number will be growing sooner rather than later! In order to have more figures, I divided the list into two: Jedi/Sith and Commoners. Let's get on with it then!

Best and Worst Commoner Figures

Worst) Jabba the Hut

This barely even counts as an action figure! It kinda sucks, because Jabba deserves better. Make his head/upper body able to turn, make his head more solid than just soft plastic, and remove the silly gimmick. We need a better Jabba.

5) Han Solo(A New Hope)

For such an old Black Series figure, Han Solo holds up really well. I mean, he comes from an era BEFORE the digital face-painting, and yet, he still looks great. The articulation is still really good for today's Black Series' standards, and despite looking a bit lanky... he's still a good looking figure.

4) The Mandalorian(Glavis Ringworld)

I haven't gotten up to Ringworld yet, but still, I needed a Mandalorian. I think this figure is VERY overrated, but, that aside, it's still a good figure.... after you perform some little tweaks to help him hold his sword.

3) Stormtrooper

I don't think getting Stormtroopers was very high in my priority list, but... these figures are great! The sculpt is incredibly accurate to how these guys looked, and all their different pieces feel very high quality. And for simple cannon fodder, these guys even get butterfly joints! Overall? Fantastic additions to any collection.

Runner-up) Chewbacca(Solo: A Star Wars Story)

Any Chewbacca would've done for my collection... but I'm glad that the one I got is so GOOD. The detail, the articulation, the scale, EVERYTHING! It's also great that this version of Chewbacca could work on any display too.

Winner) Grand Admiral Thrawn

I'm so happy that there's a comic-accurate version of Thrawn, and he's also a fantastic figure. A rather late addition to my collection, but one I'm very happy for. There's very little I would've done differently with him. Maybe brighter red on his eyes? Whatever the case, I feel like this is as great as it gets with Black Series, as the only thing that holds him back are the Black Series' standards for articulation.

Best and Worst Jedi/Sith Figures

Worst) Yoda

Look, things such as the wonky face paint I can forgive, digital printing wasn't a thing yet, and he does look a bit like his puppet. But certain design choices are just baffling... double-jointed elbows but no arm swivels? Swivels on his legs but no joints? Definitely, a true 'What where they thinking?' moment.

5) Mace Windu

Mace was one of the characters I was planning on getting after I first got Anakin a few years ago, but COVID happened and messed up my plans. But he's finally here, and he is amazing. From the face sculpt to the outfit, everything is just perfect.

4) Darth Maul

I like Darth Maul... but I never thought I'd be putting him so high up in a list! He is just a great figure all around. As per usual, Black Series articulation isn't extensive as something like a Marvel Legends, but with this figure you can get Maul in any pose that you could possibly need to. And while design wise he is very simple, his robes are very detailed and his face sculpt threatening, so his short stature is no issue when posed facing Jedi!

3) Cal Kestis(Jedi Survivor)

If the Disney era of Star Wars has done something right, it's the Fallen Order/Jedi Survivor duology of games. And I happen to think that Cal Ketis' design is one of the coolest to have come out of Star Wars, and both designs are fantastic. If you ask me, this is one of the coolest Jedi action figures you can own...

Runner-up) Cal Kestis(Fallen Order)

Look, either Cal Kestis figure is amazing, as both designs are really cool, but I place this one a bit higher for two reasons: A) The face sculpt is more accurate to how he looks in the game, and B) This one is the figure that got me interested in Black Series' figures!

Winner) Mara Jade

I'll just say one thing: Female Marvel Legends figures WISH they were as articulated as Mara Jade. And even beyond that, she's just a really cool Jedi figure. She's not 1:1 to the comic interpretation, as her armored boots and more endowed figure are missing, but that aside, she's exactly what I would've picture Mara Jade to be, and she is a blast to play with too!

Street Fighter Action Figures

This is pretty much Jada's category, since they are all the SF figures I own! I have 6 of them.... so far. Which also means that all my SF figures are on the list!

Best and Worst Street Fighter Figures

Worst) Ryu

In this case 'Worst' is a technicality, because this Ryu figure is great... it only just so happens that mine had a few QC issues with a foot, which seems to be missing a chunk o' plastic and the face-paint being off-centered. But that aside, he's great, really!

5) Fei Long

Is Fei Long anybody's favorite? Is it? I doubt it, but, whichever the case, he is an amazing action figure, and he set the bar for all future Jada releases. Amazing articulation and a sculpt that was done with care... this was a sign of great things to come, and Jada managed to meet expectations with each new release.

4) Chun-Li

My girl, Chunner, is up next. A fantastic new sculpt, their first female figure in fact, which was made with an entirely new sculpt with no reused pieces whatsoever, and the kick-effect accessory is just brilliant. She isn't any higher because, honestly, I find her design a bit plain.

3) Dhalsim

And then they brought Dhalsim into plastic form. His effect pieces, while original, are not really something I liked because they are made out of rubber, and rubber, well, deteriorates rather harshly with time. But, even though I don't really like the effect pieces... I do love how Dhalsim look, because he is, quite honestly, a bit of a weirdo, with his skull necklace and white pupils, making him a nice figure to have among other warriors

Runner-up) Ken

Maybe I'm playing favorite, maybe I'm not, what matters is that this Ken Masters figure is dope as hell. While he shares the same body sculpt as Ryu, my Ken has no QC issues, and his Gi actually looks different from Ryu's. Whichever the case, I love how they sculpted this figure's muscles and textures, and how perfectly they captured Ken from the videogames.

Winner) M. Bison

And then we have Jada's peak, at the moment, with M. Bison. This guy looks super beefy, very menacing, and, the cherry on top, he comes with this badass wired cape that helps make him even more classy. Right now this is the best Jada has offered, and I hope they keep getting better.

G. I. Joe

So... I kinda lost track of how many figures per category were by now. Regardless, I tried to get into G. I. Joe but I couldn't, but I can tell you this much: They sure make some badass ninja!

Best and Worst G.I. Joe Figures

Worst) The Baroness(Snake Eyes Movie)

Well, this isn't a bad figure by any means, it's just... an average figures, which happens to be the worst I own when it comes to G. I. Joe. The Baroness and Scarlet were one of the best bits about the movie, so I'm happy to have her. Her neck is a bit too long, and the head sculpt is not as accurate as it could be... but she's fine.

5) Scarlet(Snake eyes movie)

Thanks to this figure I started to realize that female figures could sustain better articulation, it's just that Hasbro refuses to implement it on their Marvel Legends line. But, yeah, she looks great and she is fun to pose around.

4) Kamakura

Kamakura is the G.I. Joe Ninja that is almost mainstream but isn't, having made small appearances in a few movies, games and shows, but never enough to be a mainstay. While he is usually portrayed as a bit of a rookie, this figure makes him look like one mean badass, which is why I love him so much. I usually pose him fighting heroes!

3) Storm Shadow(Snake eyes Movie)

While he is a bit more cream-colored rather than snow-white colored,, I think this is a fantastic villain figure. There's a lot of details on his costume, which makes him look simple yet detailed at the same time. But it's the face sculpt that sells the cold authority this character was defined by in the movie. I love it!

Runner-up) Snake Eyes(Snake Eyes Movie)

While he was diversity-washed for the movie, you can just keep the helmet on and pretend it's your normal Snake Eyes. And you should, because while the comic/show accurate figure is OK, this one is incredible. The detail on his armored outfit is gorgeous, keeping it simple but stylish. Sure, he comes with much less accessories, only two knives and a katana, but Snake Eyes doesn't need anything else. This guy has been one of my favorites for a while now.

Winner) Agent Helix

I got this figure very late last year and she has been my favorite female action figure since. She's color coded with yellow as the main color, so just the color scheme caught my eyes. But then there's the rest of her cool design, as well as the weaponry she comes with. And that's just on the outset, the articulation is as good as it gets with Western Action figures, easily. A phenomenal action figure, all things considered.

OTHER

The ones that either had too little figures or good figures for their own lists, like Power Rangers Lightning Collection, League of Legends Champions Series or Anime Heroes.

Best and Worst Other Figures

Worst) Betty Page

Both of her arms broke. I definitely was to kind with this figure, but I guess it has to do that I always saw her as little more than an extra for The Rocketeer. But yeah... boring and fragile.

5) Mighty Morphin White Ranger(Lightning Collection)

I wasn't too keen on getting the metallic version of the character, but having him on hand I don't really mind, it adds some pizzaz to very appealing character design that oozes 90's charm. I love having this guy in my collection.

4) He-Ro(Masters of the Universe Classics)

I liked this guy the moment I held it in my hands, I love how beefy and sturdy he feels. Aside from that, I just love his medieval sci-fi golden look, he was fun to play with, so much so that I just might get a few more MOTUC figures.

3) Midas Rex

I've been toying around with this guy since I got him at the end of last year. He simply has so much rizz, he's my go-to figure for snazzy villains. And the best bit? I know nothing about the guy, I just think he looks amazing and has an incredible articulation range that allows for a ton of cool posing.

Runner-up) Chester Cheetah

A figure I got very early this year, Chester has been such a fun figure to play with, I've dropped random photos with him forcing cheetos on other characters all year long! He is a very simple figure, but what he has allows for anything you'd need for some funny displays.

Winner) The Rocketeer

Packaged along one of the worst figures I own comes one of the best, The Rocketeer. I got him early this year too and I haven't stopped playing with him since. The Rocketeer has a badass character design, and the articulation pretty much matches Marvel Legends, which nets you an incredible figure to play with.

S.H. Figuarts

I never thought I'd be getting the prohibitively expensive import figures, but one break up later I find myself with more disposable income than I knew what to do with it... so lo and behold!

Best and Worst S.H. Figuarts Figures

Worst) Jin Kazama

His left arm broke not five minutes after I started playing with him. Sure, toys break, but this is a premium figure. And even ignoring the tiny pegs they chose for his arms, his articulation really is nothing to write home about, which is just criminal considering this is a fighting game character. Yeah... I won't be investing in Figuarts' Tekken line, what a disappointment.

5) Ultimate Gohan(Dragon Ball Super Hero)

On the other end we have Gohan. While some of his plastic pieces seem a bit fragile, his pegs are beefy and sturdy, and he has swivels in every place that Jin hasn't, allowing for an impressive range of attacking and defending poses. The sculpt is beautiful too, thanks to blocky muscles and features that make him look straight out of Toriyama's art.

4) 2B

She feels very fragile, but unlike Jin, she hasn't broken yet, and I've played with her a lot. I love the sculpt, I love all the little details on her costume, with the little bow on her waist and the petals on her sleeves... she's honestly quite fantastic. Her heels make it a bit hard to pose in certain ways, but she does come with a base, so there's no excuse there. A gorgeous action figure.

3) Naruto(Kurama Link Mode)

Figures with a yellow-centric color scheme will ALWAYS get me, so now imagine an almost entirely yellow figure... yeah. This figure is absolutely beautiful, the sculpt has all these little spikes coming out of his body to simulate him being made out of energy, the articulation is as good as it can get with Figuarts, and he also comes with an obscene amount of alternate hands... The moment I found out he existed I had to get him, and I never looked back.

Runner-up) Makima

Makima is a figure I played with a lot, something about the expression of her face just lends herself to be played with. And yeah she is a bit plain looking, I'll give you that, and her articulation isn't as great as some of the figures below her... but if I had fun posing one Figuarts figure this year it was this one. I had her cross-over with many of my other figure universes. You could say she was my eastern equivalent of the Chester Cheetah figure.

Winner) Eustass Kid

I've heard and seen nothing but bad things about Figuarts' One Piece line, but this guy was nothing but fun for me. Due to his massive size and his mechanical arm, with fingers that move independently and even have a a joint that lets you close or open them allows for a ton of different poses. And even leaving aside the articulation, the sculpt was such a labor of love, from his muscles to his pants, you can tell that a lot of work went into this figure, and it paid off!

FIGMA

I've got a decidedly smaller number of Figma figures than Figuarts, which is suprising because in a few ways I feel like Figma is superior, namely, the durability of their joints.

Best and Worst FIGMA Figures

Worst) Kanu Unchou

Full disclosure: This figure is not so much as bad as it is, well, out of scale with the rest of my imported figures. She's too tiny. Too large to be a 4 inch figure, too small to be a 6-5 inch figure, so she just looks out of place wherever I put her.

5) Hero(Persona 4)

He's a bit limited when compared with other Figmas, but at the end of the day, this is still a Figma, so he looks fantastic however you decide to pose him. Still, it only gets better from here.

4) Rosalin Strout

Ryze is not the easiest design to translate into plastic, but they did it! She's hyper detailed, with all sorts of little thingies hanging from various places of her body. She also comes with a ton of very detailed accessories. She's just lovely!

3) Demi-Fiend/Hito-Shura

While he's definitely a simpler design than Ryza, with the Demi-Fiend they also managed to turn Kazuma Kaneko's art into plastic flawlessly. The paint job on his tattoos and face are just perfect, and he comes with the most iconic accessories they could've picked for him. He has been one of my most played with figures this year.

Runner-up) Raidou Kuzunoha

Every thing I wrote about the Demi-Fiend applies to Raidou Kuzunoha as well, except that I think Raidou is a slightly cooler design. And man, oh man, even the soft-goods cape is a pleasure to work with since it's wired on the inside, allowing for some very dynamic posing. That said, I had to perform a bit of surgery with him. I glued on his abdomen to his chest, since it kept coming apart, and I cut some openings on the lower part of his jacket so that I could move his legs without pushing up his torso. With thes elittle tweaks I turned him into a figure I had a lot of fun playing with throughout the year.

Winner) Guyver I(Figma #600)

Guyver I is a thing of beauty. He is very different from other Figmas, having a unique joint system not shared with other figures from Figma. And it all helps making him feel less fragile, beefier and just a more solid figure all around. But going to the sculpt itself... this guy is gorgeous, it's a perfect rendition of Guyver I in plastic. Posing him battling other figures, such as Marvel Select's Abomination, was so much fun!

ANIME

A lot of familiar faces on this list. I mean... initially, Anime Heroes as well as other figures were here, but it's just that... c'mon, Figuarts just blow other anime lines out of the water!

Best and Worst Anime Figures

Worst) Toyohisa Shimazu(MEDICOS)

One of the worst figure I own, period. This is an import figure I won in an auction for little over 20usd, proving that nobody wanted it. And now wonder, he looks lanky, his feet are weird to pose, and some pieces just fall over as you pose him. He is not fun to pose, and if I wanted a statue, I would've gotten a statue.

5) Ultimate Gohan(Super Hero)

I've already mentioned why he is so good, but needless to say, let's just say that not many action figure makers strive so hard to make something resemble SO closely it's source material as Figuarts managed with Gohan.

4) Naruto(Kurama Link Mode)

On the other end, we have Naruto, and with him they didn't try hard to emulate Kishimoto or Studio Pierrot's style... but it doesn't really matter, because this Naruto figure is just incredible. He is one of the most eye-catching figures I own, by far, due to it's obnoxiously vibrant color scheme. And going beyond it's look, it's a fun figure to pose and play with.

3) Makima

Makima is the figure with the most drip I own, I mean... doesn't matter which character I pose her with, she always looks so snazzy and villainous. Her articulation is relatively limited when compared with the figures listed above, but the amount of fun I had with her was definitely much higher.

Runner-up) Eustass Kid

To me, Eustass Kid has everything. A phenomenal sculpt and an outstanding range with all of its articulation. He is just fantastic any way I look at him.

Winner) Guyver I(Figma #600)

Guyver I is back here again! He is a bit simpler than pretty much any other figure on this list, but he is accurate to the source material to a tee. The new articulation system they went for with him feels so smooth to pose with, which makes him good looking and nice to the touch. Incredible figure.

Videogames

Another list with some familiar faces. This is where other lines like League of Legends Champion Series would've been... if only they had better figures! But alas, here we are.

Best and Worst Videogame Figures

Worst) Iron Man(Midnight Suns)

Not only is this Iron Man figure horrible when it comes to articulation, but it also failed spectacularly to adapt how Iron Man looks in the game. The most notorious thing about Midnight Suns was the exclusive end-game costumes characters could earn, so to fail at that... geez.

5) Ken Masters

While this is not my favorite version of Ken, that honor goes to CVS2 or SFIII, Jada adapted Ken's SF II's look perfectly. And beyond that, the figure itself looks amazing and is fun to play with.

4) Midas Rex

Is this a faithful rendition of the character? I wouldn't know, I don't play Fortnite. But he is a banger of an action figure, he has been a mainstay in my displays due to how badass he looks and how much fun he is to play with.

3) M. Bison

M.Bison is Jada's way of showing that they are here to stay. A completely new sculpt that retains all the articulation that previous releases had, while also working it neat goodies such as a cape and alternate pauldrons. This is a fantastic villain to own.

Runner-up) Raidou Kuzunoha

The king of drip, just look at this guy! Perfect translation of Kazuma Kaneko's art into plastic, with a meticulous attention to detail brings Raidou to life so perfectly well. I had to make a few tweaks to make him work just right for me, but afterwards it became one of my favorites.

Winner) 2B

I haven't played NIER - Automata yet, but I don't need to to realize just how incredible this figure is. Highly detailed and highly poseable, she is a badass looking swordswoman that I have loved posing around my house.
