Action Figure #451: Star Wars The Black Series Cal Kestis(Jedi Survivor)

The sequel figure from the sequel game.

Star Wars Fallen Order was a game I loved so much that as soon as I finished it I got myself Cal Kestis' action figure. I was bummed that Jedi Survivor was going to be a next gen exclusive, and even more bummed that the initial release wasn't complete on disc or even stable... and so, a year later it got a generational downgrade, comes entirely ON the disc and is even more stable! Let's go!
For a moment I thought I was back to talking about games! Well, here is Cal as he looks in the second game... before you start customizing him. I really love Cal's new design, and I'm still not sure about which costume I prefer, this one or the previous one, because both are very snazzy. He comes with his blade, with a slightly smaller handle, a blaster gun and his trusty droid.... but where is his other saber? Alright, for the initial release, whatever, Cal getting a second blade happened very late in the game, it could've even been a spoiler... but what's their excuse now? Cal begins the game using dual blades from the get go, so him getting a single blade is criminal. BD-1 is just a reuse from the previous figure too.
Leaving the secondary blade issue aside, the articulation is par for the course for newer Black Series figures. He has a ball jointed ab crunch, butterfly joins... but single jointed elbows and knees. To be fair, he has decent range on both, but I don't know why Hasbro cut back on Black Series' articulation. The arms don't even have swivels on them... although his legs do. He is slightly shorter than the Bucky Cap Mold.
And now the head... modern Black Series figures have skewed their heads smaller, which fair enough... but the head sculpt is not a good likeness of the character or the actor. As a matter of fact, his scars are still missing, and I feel as if the most accurate hate depiction would be somewhere in between both Cal Kestis' figures, but I feel the previous release was closer. It's not a HUGE issue, but it's worth mentioning. They really could've done better here, because they already did with the previous figure.
I love this Cal Kestis as much as I loved the previous one. Minor gripes aside, he is a great figure. Now then... were are the figures for the rest of the crew of the Mantis? I'd be happy if we just got Merrin. It's the least the could do.
