Let me come out and say it, I had no expectations, good or bad, for this guy, I just thought he looked kinda cool and I wanted to try a few different brand of Action Figures. And man, I fell in love with it. He is a bit of an exhibitionist, so there's not much in the way of clothes with this guy, but what armor he wears... it's very detailed, it has scuffs and scratches. They also textured the softer clothes he wears to cover his no-no parts, and the belts look like leather. Even his legs, which wear wraps, are nicely detailed. The paint apps on this guy are incredible. Everything but his skin has a wash to it, so all the detail that went into his sculpt is fully highlighted. And his swords? Man, these are the coolest toy swords I own. Easily. The only thing I'll hold against him are his spiky arms and legs, sometimes playing with this figure is painful... and fun. He comes with two pairs of gripping hands, one seems to be a tighter grip, a pair of grabby hands, a shield, an alternate Angry head, a shield and two different swords.
His elbow and knee joints, while they work great look a bit weird. They are a third, slimmer piece, that connects both ends of arms and forearm, leg and shin, and they look a bit weird depending on the angle. It's not a deal breaker, and it's not Japanese Import kind of over-engineering, just weird.
His chest and shoulder armor are modular, so you can swap some pieces around by slotting them on different holes on his back. His right-arm shoulder pad is particularly flimsy, so I'm reinforcing it with glue at the time. It also means you can take some pieces off, but you'll have to deal with the holes on his back.
I've got no complaints with the articulation. Elbows and knees are double jointed, although the arms go only a little bit beyond 90 degrees. The legs go much farther. He has reverse butterfly joints that don't really add much range, but they are not unwelcome. Both his ab-crunch and his waist are on ball joints. He has swivels on his biceps and thighs, but they are unnecessary, since the joints on his knees and elbows can turn. Lastly, the skirt is made up of very soft plastic, so he can kick like the best of them. Now then, these figures are being sold as being on the 1:12, but as you can see below, he sits between 7 and 6 inches. The good thing is that you can probably mix him into either collection of figures, no fuss, but he might tower over some of your Marvel Legends... which is not too bad considering he is a warrior, and he'll look fine next to Thor.
When I purchased this guy I know for a fact I wasn't expecting to love him this much. He looks incredible, the sculpt is great, the paint is great, the weapons are great... I love most of the things about this guy. I might try to get some more Savage Crucible figures next year.
